Our services
CSVSS provides:
What is counselling?
Counselling is a safe environment in which you are given the time and space to explore your feelings. All of our counsellors are qualified to Diploma level, are understanding, accepting and non-judgemental and will help you to look at the difficulties you are facing. Our counsellors do not tell you how to feel or give advice, they listen and try to help you find your own solutions. Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes (the counselling hour) and will normally be the same day and time every week, with the same counsellor.
We do not limit women who access our confidential counselling to a maximum number of sessions as our counsellors will work with you to find the best path of therapy for you. Normally during the first session and regularly throughout the counselling, the counsellor will review with you how you feel the counselling is going and whether there have been any changes to how you are feeling. These reviews are to ensure that you are discussing the issues you want to during the counselling and that you are getting as much benefit from the sessions as possible.
For more information on counselling, you can download the Making the most of Counselling leaflet below.
Counselling is offered on an appointment-only basis so please contact us if you feel that counselling would benefit you.
Telephone Support Line
We also have a telephone support line accessible on 01244 317 922 and all of our volunteers offer practical information on a range of issues such as pregnancy, emergency contraception, sexual health and other areas that may be useful. We can also put you in touch with, and refer you to, other organisations who can offer specialist support and advice.
Our telephone volunteers can also offer emotional support if you do not wish to access counselling at this stage, however this is not telephone counselling and there are limits as to the emotional support that the telephone support workers can provide. If they feel that counselling may be of benefit to you they will suggest this or direct you to another service if this is felt appropriate.
Remember, if you have experienced any form of sexual assault or violence at any time in your life, it is not your fault. The fault lies with the person who abused you, the perpetrator. Please go to the contact us section for ways to get in touch with us.
