Becoming a Trustee
Chester Sexual Violence Support Service (CSVSS) is always looking to diversify and add to the talent that we already have. Becoming a Trustee is both a rewarding and an interesting role.
Trustees are the people who serve on the governing body of a charity. They may be known as Trustees, Directors, Board Members, Governors or Committee Members. Trustees’ main duties include responsibility for directing the affairs of a charity, and ensuring that it is solvent, well run, and achieving the charitable aims for which it has been set up. Charity Trustees come from all walks of life, and are united by their wish to create positive change in society. Most people are eligible to serve as Trustees. You must be prepared to give the necessary time and effort to the management of the charity. You cannot be a trustee if you are under 18 years of age, and undischarged bankrupt or have an unspent conviction for an offence of dishonesty or deception.
The key Responsibilities of a Trustee is to ensure the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction; be responsible for the performance of the charity and for its corporate behaviour; ensuring the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements; act as guardians of the charity’s assets and ensure that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.
If you feel that you have the relevant experience and skills to assist in the charity's development and would like to find out more about becoming a Trustee, please for an informal discussion about the process.
Whatever your previous experience or available time, we will always be glad to hear from you. If you would like to be involved or help us in any way, please ring us on 01244 317 922 or email us at csvssrecruit@yahoo.co.uk for an application form.
